Let’s get your baby and child examined and diagnosed!
🖐Hi there👣👄 What’s HFMD?
HFMD stands for Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease.
The HFMD is caused by a virus.
HFMD can make your Baby and Child feel pretty yucky 😷 and it spreads really easily, especially in places like:
🏫 Schools
🎨 Kindergartens
👶 Childcare centres.
HFMD is around all year long in Singapore 🇸🇬 — and sometimes, many kids get it at once. That’s called an outbreak!
🦠 How Does It Spread?
You can catch HFMD by touching things like:
🤧 Snot
💦 Saliva (spit)
💩 Poop
💥 Fluid from blisters or rash
That’s why it's super important to wash your hands 🧼🖐 all the time!
Even adults can get it, but kids under 5 years old 👶👧 get it the most.
❗️Signs What signs do you look for?
How Do I know If Something’s Up?
A child with HFMD might:
🌡 Have a fever
😫
Complain of a sore throat
👅 Get painful ulcers in the mouth or on the tongue
👋👣 Get a rash or blisters on the hands, feet, or even bum
😵 Feel tired or grumpy
🍽 Lose their appetite
🤢 Have tummy aches, vomiting, or diarrhoea
The rash usually looks like tiny blisters and appears on the palms ✋, soles of the feet 👣, and sometimes on the arms, legs, or diaper area 🩲. 😳
Can HFMD Be Serious?
Most kids feel better in a few days, but watch out for these serious signs: 😖 Bad headache or stiff neck
😕 Confused, super sleepy, or cranky
⚡️ Seizures (fits)
💙 Turning blue or having trouble breathing
🚨 If any of these happen, go to the doctor or hospital right away!
💊 How to Feel Better ??
There’s no magic cure for HFMD — it just needs time ⏳ to go away.
But here’s how to feel better faster:
💧 Drink lots of fluids
🥣 Eat soft food like porridge or mashed fruit if your mouth hurts
🛏 Get lots of rest at home
🧃 Use meds like paracetamol (only if the doctor says it's okay)
No antibiotics! 🛑🧪 They don’t work on viruses like HFMD.
🧍♂️🛑 Help Stop the Spread!
If you have HFMD, you need to stay home to keep others safe.
🚫 Don’t go to school, childcare, malls, playgrounds, or anywhere with crowds
🧸 Keep your things (toys, cups, towels) just for you
📣 Tell your teacher or childcare centre so they can help protect others
👀 Watch your siblings and family — HFMD can spread at home too!
🧼🧴 Stay Safe with These Hygiene Habits!
Here’s how to protect yourself (and your friends):
🧼 Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds
🤧 Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
🍴 Don’t share cups, spoons, forks, or snacks
🧽 Clean your toys if they get drool or snot on them
😷 If you feel unwell, wear a mask and stay home
👨👩👧👦 Parents: Daily HFMD Check Before School
✏️🏫 Before heading out, check your child for:
🌡 Fever
👄 Ulcers in the mouth or on the lips
✋👣 Blisters on hands, feet, or diaper area
📍 If you think it might be HFMD, take your child to Oei Family Clinic for a check-up and keep them home until they’re fully better! 🏡❤️
